Flo Master’s Top Three (3) Favorite Boxing Movies
I understand the power of watching movies about boxing and martial arts. They are motivating, inspiring, and evoke many emotions for all of us that watch them. I’ve watched some of these boxing movies so many times that I can recite the lines word for word. When I need to reignite my fire, I turn to some of these movies and frequently use quotations from them in my classes on the FightCamp app.
Here are my top three (3) favorite boxing movies of all time:
#1 Rocky III

In Rocky III, we see Rocky living the high life, but he has lost his hunger. After his trainer dies, he has his belt taken from him by Clubber Lang. Apollo Creed, someone who has been his biggest adversary, tells Rocky that he got civilized and that he needs to get hungry and find the “eye of the tiger” again. This movie reminds me to always stay hungry and humble in my life.
Favorite Quotation
“You ain’t been hungry since you won that belt.”
#2 Southpaw

Southpaw is another boxing film that shows someone losing everything and fighting their way back. The critical message in this movie is that emotions can bring out the best and worst in all of us. The main character in this movie, Billy “The Great” Hope, must learn to control the anger that he believes caused him so much loss. The power we have over our emotions and our actions is an important message for all of us. Your emotions dictate whether you will win or lose. Keep them in control. You have to be smart in the ring, not angry.
Favorite Quotation
“I can’t lose my daughter.”
This is meaningful to me because my first child was my daughter and she saved my life. Having her come into my life made me realize I needed to grow up and take responsibility for my actions.
#3 Creed

In the movie, Adonis Creed, Apollo Creed’s son, experiences the pressures of living in the shadows of a parent. He struggles with this, and Rocky is there to help him find his own way as a fighter. He helps him to work past the strong presence of his father’s history. In the end, Adonis shows us that it is okay to honor where you are from, but that you have to step out of the shadows and be yourself.
Favorite Quotation
[Rocky to Adonis, pointing toward Adonis' reflection in the mirror] “That's the toughest opponent you're ever going to have to face.” You are your toughest opponent.
While each of these movies takes place at a different time and with different people, the message is often the same. A fire is ignited to “inspire the fighter within.” This is the mission at FightCamp and something that I try to bring to every workout that I lead. All of the lessons in these three films have the power to do that for each of us. I hope that you find them motivating and inspiring the same way that I do.

The Author: Jerry Randolph (aka Flo Master) grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Being bullied as a kid, he looked for ways to break away from that narrative and found his way to dancing. He didn’t become just any kind of dancer; he became a BBoy. He became Flo Master. Flo quickly rose to fame as a dancer, performing with superstars like Usher, Ciara, Jennifer Lopez, and Will Smith. Despite this success, he felt that something was missing from his life. He knew that he wasn’t able to defend himself. Flo turned to martial arts and boxing and knew that it was the missing piece to the puzzle. Training with Jeremy Horn, Anderson “The Spider” Silva, and Erik Paulson gave Flo the real confidence that he needed as a boy in Maryland. He took his passion for dance and his love for martial arts and began working in the group fitness industry. His guiding force is to give people what he wished someone had given him when he was coming up; encouragement and empowerment. Flo Master is a Founding FightCamp Coach, eternal entertainer, and father to his two kids, who just happen to be excellent dancers and martial artists. Flo Master is also USA Boxing Coach certified.
